On The Move Again

Well, here we are again. On the move, in search of something new. It seems to be a familiar place I put myself in. Uprooting my family in search of bigger and better things. I talk more about our previous moves in my post Transplanting. This time though…this time is different! This time, we are moving with purpose and family nearby. To be honest, I’ve wanted a change for a long time. Like 3 years, long.

Visiting Wisconsin before relocating – August 2017

We moved to Wisconsin in October of 2017. I had such high hopes for this adventure! A new job in an industry that I was so passionate about and in a new place where my favorite football team plays. Making new memories and getting a fresh start. Seemed idyllic, scary but idyllic. Unfortunately, what I hoped and dreamed about just wasn’t true. I found out rather quickly that I was not a good fit for the company that recruited me. We just did not see things the same way or feel things the same way. I was devastated and woefully unhappy.

A new job search begins…

And goes on and on and on. I applied and interviewed for more jobs than I care to admit. Until Covid-19. Covid seemed to flip our lives upside down and truthfully, in the best way. Although I didn’t see it that way at first, we realized after a few months that it was just what I needed. Since I was miserable in my last job, it gave me a much-needed mental break and time to reflect and decide what we wanted to do with the next chapter.

As you saw in my The Beauty in New Beginnings post, I started a new job for a company I adore. Luckily, this new position is remote and affords me the opportunity to live and work where ever I please. So freeing! We decided to move but didn’t know where. My sister and I came to the conclusion that we no longer wanted a long-distance relationship 😉 so we planned to decide where to relocate together!

New Braunfels, Texas

After taking an exploratory trip to both Tennessee and Texas we collectively decided that the San Antonio area was the best fit for our families. We chose New Braunfels for several reasons…

  • Mid-size town with benefits of a small-town feel with large town amenities
  • Felt like our home town of Clovis, CA
  • Considered Hill Country – which is great for the hubs, he loves the mountains
  • Has great outdoor activities
  • Still somewhat affordable

I found this image online and thought it perfectly described New Braunfels. I’ve linked the blog here. I encourage you to read about it from the perspective of the My Curly Adventures blogger.

Last Adventure

We still have a few weeks until we move. Since we will miss our favorite season in Wisconsin, I planned a long weekend in the upper peninsula of Michigan to see some really cool sights such as Pictured Rocks and Mackinac Island. These places have been on my bucket list for some time.

I plan to return to Wisconsin occasionally to visit some of my favorite people and maybe catch a Green Bay game but might not have the opportunity to take an extended vacation here with the family. Might as well get these bucket list items marked off before we move!

Fun Fact: Mackinac Island banned motorized vehicles in 1898.

Final Thoughts

So here we go. Making the most of our short time left in Wisconsin. ❤️ I’ll share more about our moving adventure once the dust settles. It will include our journey down to Texas and all the fun stops we have planned along the way. For now, I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes, “And suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.
