Creating a Spa Retreat at home

During a pandemic, your choices are limited when it comes to pampering, especially when you’re a mom. I’ve been yearning for a little pamper sesh lately. Luckily, my absolutely wonderful husband gave me some pretty sweet self-care items for Mother’s Day! So I decided to put them to good use to create a DIY spa retreat at home.

Since Mother’s Day couldn’t be spent the usual way, I set some pretty big expectations for my husband. (Poor guy! – He really is the BEST!) You see, every holiday, I get sad. Missing my family and not being able to celebrate with them leaves me feeling blue. This holiday, I made it a point to not be sad and to make the most of this – dare I say – unprecedented time in our lives.

One of the expectations that I laid out for the hubs was that I must have something home-made from our daughter. That shouldn’t be a big deal right?

I have this habit of not allowing people to disappoint me. Such as reminding them that my birthday is coming to make sure it isn’t forgotten.

So I sent him some Pinterest Pins of “ideas” for the kiddo to make. Hey, at least he knew what was expected! He actually really appreciates this, I promise.

And I love crafting! More on that later.

Everleigh (my 4-year-old daughter) was more than happy to oblige. She is my child after all. 😉 The little cutie tried to keep it a secret that she was going to make me a necklace. It was the cutest thing to witness her innocent secret-keeping. They trotted off to the basement to make some extra special things for mommy. Not gonna lie, I loved the alone time while they created Mother’s Day gifts.

Mother’s Day

Once Mother’s Day arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at the sheer effort and love went into these home-made gifts. I only expected one or two items from the peanut (Everleigh) but I received so many things! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not super into gifts but this was so sweet! Not only did Everleigh make me the necklace she was so proud of but she also made me a card and an item to frame. And that’s not all. My husband ALSO made me gifts! Color me shocked!

The hubs decided to give me some pampering items but that’s not the best part. He made 2 salt scrubs with essential oils!

HE MADE THEM! This is me, absolutely smitten.

Chris really does have a servant heart. Ladies, you know what I mean when I say, I hit the husband jackpot! In addition to the home-made salt scrubs, he also purchased a couple of small Woodwick candles, a ByNature 2-in-1 face mask, beautiful bright flowers (just how I like them!) and a brown sugar lip scrub. This was the perfect gift to make my self-care dreams come true.

Now I get to the part about the 30-minute DIY Spa Retreat at home.

Supplies used:

~ Small Candle

~ Face Mask

~ Home-made Salt Scrub

~ Flowers from Mother’s Day (any kind will do – fresh or fake)

Ask your significant other or whomever you choose to take the kids outside to play.

Step 3:

Lock the door to the bathroom! Seriously. You won’t regret it.

Step 4:

Place the flowers and candles where you can see them from the shower. Light the candle and turn on the music. Take a nice steamy shower and apply the salt or sugar scrub as described. Soak in the peace you feel from the music.

Step 5:

Apply your favorite lotion to lock in the moisture from your scrub. Follow the directions from your face mask and lip scrub.

That process took me 30ish minutes. If you have extra time you can do additional pampering. I took a few extra minutes for some foot care.

Self-care is such an essential thing to do. As a woman who often puts everyone else’s needs before my own, I can understand why we don’t do it as often as we should. Ladies, please take care of yourself too! I’m sure you’ve heard this before:

“When we take care of ourselves, we can better care for our loved ones.”
